Über das Vorkommen von Viren bei Gramineen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland

Abstract

By transmission tests the occurrence and distribution of five viruses on graminaceous plants in the German Federal Republic could be shown. The most frequent virus is barley yellow dwarf virus. Oat and barley as well as Lolium perenne, Festuca pratensis, Agrostis stolonilera, and Agropyron repens were found to be infected by this virus. Especially on Lolium perenne strong growth depression was observed. Further cocksfoot streak virus which was also widespread. The main hosts of this virus were Dactylis glomerata and Lolium perenne. Festuca gigantea was round to be a new natural host plant. Cocksfoot mild mosaic virus was found in several places in Northern and Southern Germany. For the first time the appearance of brome mosaic and Agropyron mosaic viruses for the G.F.R. was shown. The significance of the viruses for the cultures of fodder grasses is pointed out.
