35 grapevine (Vitis spp.) rootstocks wer e screened for field performance, especially yield and vigour, over 10 years. The rootstocks included 25 hybrid seedlings bred by L. A. LIDER and R. M. KUNDE ('Lider seedlings') primarily for resistance to the dagger nematode (Xiphinema index THORNE and ALLEN). They were budded with Chasselas scions and planted in a vineyard replant site infested with X. index in north-eastern Victoria, Australia. The scions on most of the Lider seedling rootstocks produced significantly higher yields than those on the rootstocks traditionally used in this area for resistance to grape phylloxera (Daktulosphaira vitifoliae FITCH). 6 Lider seedlings produced high yields , and were vigorous and easy to propagate. They were also shown previously to have resistance to X. index, and therefore warrant further testing.Downloads
