Use of benzothiazol-2-oxyacetic acid to improve the germinability of seeds in early ripening grape varieties
It is possible to improve greatly the germinability of the seeds of the variety Perle de Csaba, delaying the maturity of the berries with benzothiazol-2-oxyacetic acid, at 20 ppm, sprayed on clusters 4 weeks after anthesis. In experiments made in 1976, the seeds collected on clusters sprayed with BTOA germinated at 55,6% instead of 15,2% for the controls.
The technique seems to be applicable to many early-ripening varieties, like Madeleine angevine.
The action of benzothiazol-2-oxyacetic acid, auxin-like compound, is discussed according to the present knowledge on the growth and development of the grape berry.
