Influence of the rootstock and the scion on uptake and distribution of ions
A two-year experiment of fertilizing, conducted in water culture using different combinations of grafted vines, led to the following results:
- A specific influence of the rootstock and the variety on the uptake and the content of ions in leaves and shoot axes has been established.
- The variety influenced the uptake and the content of nitrogen more than the rootstock.
- Potassium uptake and potassium content of leaves and shoot axes were determined by the rootstock.
- The content in phosphorus and magnesium was more dependent on the variety than on the rootstock. Differences in the content of leaves and shoots were established too.
- The calcium content was more dependent on the rootstock than on the variety.
- The lowest content of an ion occured in those nutrient variants where the ion was lacking in the nutrient solution. Further, the phenomenon of ion antagonism influenced the individual ion content.
