Untersuchungen an Wildreben in Deutschland

Investigations on wild growing vines in Germany
Variability in the rather diminished populations of wild vines, Vitis vinifera L. var. silvestris GMELIN, in the "Upper Rhine" gene reservoirs was investigated with regard to their importance for breeding. Also the former variability is shown by means of BRONNERs description of his assortment (1857). The results indicate that, though the variability observed by BRONNER does not exist at present, further investigations may be useful. In order to preserve wild growing vines they should be planted in assortments which could be used for both research purposes and replanting to their natural environment.
