Health actually grows in the garden – biological gardening
Gardens are an integral part of our society. They are like balm for the soul, they supply their users with food crops and fl owers, they are inspiration for artists’ creativity, and last but not least they are the most important refuges of biological diversity in urban landscapes. This conference should bring into focus the manifold linkages between gardens and human well-being. It was for the fi rst time jointly organized by the German Horticultural Society 1822 (DGG) and the Julius Kühn-Institut, Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants and should prepare the ground for a variety of future activities aimed at promoting garden culture in Germany.
