Regulatory requirements for the production and quality of herbal medicinal products
Development, registration, production as well as marketing and sales of medicinal products are subject to harmonized rules, which are summarized in the Community code relating to medicinal products for human use (Directive 2001/83/EC) in Europe and include also herbal medicinal products. Prior to starting development or production of herbal raw materials or herbal extracts for pharmaceutical use medicinal plant collectors, growers or extract manufacturers should make themselves familiar with the respective regulations in order to safely develop a long-term constructional co-operation with pharmaceutical companies as their customers.
