With 2471 species, crop wild relatives (CWR) comprise 67.9% of the vascular plants established in Germany (excluding neophytes), 11.3% of the vascular plants are classified as priority CWR species. According to the Red List of Germany, 25.7% of CWR species are endangered. Germany has a high responsibility for the worldwide conservation of 453 WEL species. The WEL concept offers a further criterion for prioritization in species conservation in addition to the criteria of endangering and responsibility.
